Unique Themes for Your Dog’s Photo Session

Tamara Telkes

Have you ever thought to yourself “I really love these photos, but I want something different, something outstanding for my dog”? Well, I’m here to tell you that you’re absolutely right to think that each dog is unique and deserve a session that is tailored to them. So I collected some ideas that you can use as inspiration for the kind of unique and personalized photoshoot you would like to experience with them.

Lavender Field

For a small timeframe, only a few weeks every year your pup can be photographed in a sea of purple flowers. Finding the perfect field of course takes a bit of scouting, but in the right spot, the most incredible running shots, or dog and owner photos can be taken. If you enjoy a monochromatic vibe to your gallery, where all the photos go together perfectly – either in an Instagram post or a gorgeous display of wall art pieces – lavender field shoots are the way to go.

My Other Half

One of the most popular themes, that a great many past clients of mine adored, and for a reason. These split in the middle photos, with face next to face, a glint in both your and your dog’s eye are magical precisely because of their simplicity. With a bit of patience and trial and error, they can be taken at any location since the focus is only on the relationship between the two of you. These pictures capture the harmony, the unique bond between pet and owner, and for that reason they are an essential for everyone, in my opinion.

Christmas session

Christmas is a family celebration, and if you’re anything like me, you consider your dog to be a part of your family. Hence, they cannot be left out of that annual photoshoot, or the cards you send. A holiday session can take place either in the calm and controlled environment that a studio provides, or outside, in place like a Christmas market that is full of life and pretty lights. Whichever suits you and your pup more, the beauty of these shoots is that they can be made a tradition, something you repeat every one or two years, so that it showcases how you grow and change over time.

My Dog is my Valentine

Another fun, holiday themed shoot for the devoted dog moms. Regardless of whether you are single or taken, your dog has been and will be by your side through everything, and so Valentine’s Day, a celebration of love is the perfect excuse to take some everlasting pictures of the two of you. Heart-shaped decoration, or perhaps even matching outfits are essentials here. If you would like to take photos that showcase the relationship you have with your dog, with a bit of a special twist to them, this February is the time to go for it.

Vintage Dog Photos

I saved the best for last – these analog dog photos are my personal favorites. There is an intensified emotional value to film photos, since each portrait is one of a kind. They are imperfect, raw and truthful in a way digital photos could never be. Vintage sessions are more than just the medium of what it is photographed on, they are about honest emotion, and most of all a feeling, a vibe that cannot be replicated. Shot on Kodak film, they have naturally beautiful colors and are crisp sharp thanks to incredible Contax lenses I use. All of which is to say that a series of these pictures stand out with their simplistic beauty and an atmosphere that immerses you.

Once you decide on the theme that is closest to your heart, you can get in touch with me here and book your session! Some of the aforementioned ideas you can even mix and match to create a photoshoot that encapsulates all the different styles you love and take a series of photos that are entirely unique to you. And if you’re really dedicated you can even collect all these sessions, one by one, over the years. Whatever you may choose, I can’t wait to meet you and your furry friend, so please do not hesitate to message me!
