Why Is Dog Photography So Expensive? – What Does a Dog Photo Package Include
Tamara Telkes

Have you ever wondered why pet photosessions cost as much as they do? Contrary to what some believe, a lot more goes into it than just pressing a button. Real knowledge and a ton of experience is required to create good quality images in whatever situation life may throw at you, an understanding of dogs’ body language and training is required, not to mention the back-end processes that make sure your experience is as smooth as it can be. Here’s a breakdown of what’s included in a dog photoshoot package.
1. Planning and prep guide
I always want to make sure your experience is personalized to you and your dog’s needs. That’s why I ask you to fill out a questionnaire where you can share with me all about your dog, what you envision and what’s important to you. I will also send you a preparation guide with all the information you might need to have a stress-free session.
2. Location recommendations
Photographers spend a lot of time scouting the best locations. I know some the nicest spots across the country and if I go someplace new, I’ll spend whatever time’s necessary to find the perfect place for you. This is not only important for the pretty scenery but because I can make custom recommendations for places that best accommodate your dog’s needs.
3. A decade of experience with dogs
I’m prepared to make a photoshoot work with just about any dog. I’ve worked with shy, reactive, hyperactive, distracted – you name it – dogs over the years and we’ve always managed to get those shots. There’s no pressure for your pup to be perfectly behaved or even to be off leash! And they certainly don’t have to do anything they don’t want to.

4. Guidance throughout the experience
We all want those dog and owner photos that capture perfectly the bond we have with our best friend, but I know it’s pretty intimidating to be in front of the camera for the first time. Don’t worry, I have loads of ideas for how you can pose with your dog, even if you’re shy or hate being in photos (cause same).
5. Meticulous retouching
This is the part where I remove those leashes, or anything distracting in the background and add my unique touch to your photos, my own style that I’ve developed through years of hard work. It can take a very long time and a lot of attention to detail to perfect an image. Still, I try to be as quick as I can, and I always deliver your pictures for you to enjoy within 2 weeks.

6. Customized artwork
Our goal is to create something truly lasting of your pet, something that will make you smile every time you see it. So, my packages always include tangible artwork, whether that be paper prints, an album with all of our best shots or a gorgeous premium canvas print.
+ Camera gear, editing softwares and knowledge
To deliver the best quality images, photographers have to spend some serious money on the best possible camera, the sharpest lenses, editing programs, and sometimes education. All of these are a huge investment we make in hopes to capture meaningful moments for you. Additionally, the thing that can’t really be quantified in monetary terms is the years we have spent studying, practicing, putting in our 10000 hours to get to level where we have our own perspectives and styles that stand out, and the confidence that we will be able to create beautiful images of your pet no matter what.

Dog photography is an investment you make to preserve moments with your best friend that you will cherish for the rest of your life. And that is not something any photographer takes lightly – I will always give my all so that every dog can have their special day, one which their owners will never forget.
